Episode 24 - Crafting Memorable Melodies with Claire Radel

Write on Track: A Songwriting Podcast - A podcast by Demi Michelle Schwartz - Sundays

Melody is a key element of songs. It’s made up of pitches and rhythms and helps to establish the different sections of a song. There are many tools songwriters can use to craft memorable melodies. I’m so excited to welcome Claire Radel onto the show to explore melodies. The quote for this episode is by Martin Sutton: “A great melody brings people into a song, and a great lyric keeps them there.” Songwriters have to take the time to craft a melody that is memorable and works well with the song’s lyrical content. After we pull listeners into our songs, we can deliver the message. Claire and I explore many tools and techniques that allow songwriters to create strong melodic contrast between song sections. We sing different songs to demonstrate these tools and techniques, then discuss each technique and the purpose it serves. I had so much fun doing this very musical and informative episode with Claire all about crafting memorable melodies. Are you enjoying Write on Track? Do you have a topic suggestion for an episode?
